Half Yearly Report for 2009 of Kannada Film Industry

This is the first half of the year 2009 Kannada films have completed, in which the success rate is less than 10 percent among 65 movies released from last six months.

Lack of approach, poor selection of subjects and not knowing the grammar of film making being the major reasons for the failure of the movies.

It is Vijay with two films, Sudeep, Ramesh Aravind, Yogish and Malashri with one film each did well in the last six months in the box office.

The major flop movies were ShivarajKumar's Nanda and Hodimaga, Upendra's Dubai Babu, Srimurali's Shivamani and Yagna, Dr. Vishnuvardhan's Nam Yajamanru, Ganesh's Circus, Vijaya Raghavendra's Karanji and Nam Yajamanru, Prajwal Devraj's Ghulama, Prem's Gautham, Ajay's Jaaji Mallige and Balaji and Ravichandran's Rajakumari.

The films that did well in the box office include Josh with a new star cast, Ambari of Yogish and Supritha, Savaari of Srinagara Kitty, Raghu Mukerji and Kamalini Mukerjee, Yee Shathamanadha Veera Madhakari of Sudeep and Ragini, Junglee of Vijay and Andrita Ray, Kannadadha Kiran Bedi of Malashri and Thakkath of Vijay and Shuba Punj.

Among the new entrants, Ambari movie director Arjun and Jacob Verghese of Telugu film remake, Ghamyam in Kannada as Savaari showed good results.

The Kannada Film Producers Association never bothered to think on the quality of films, instead applied the 10 point formula to check the expenses made on the films.

The first half of the year went on with the controversies like Dr.Leelavathi in shock for receiving a blow to her vehicle, Hodi Maga locked in censor battle, Darshan statement on Dr Jayamala that he would act on the day whatever happens to Dr Jayamala.

The major controversies were Ramya lashing out at a film journalist for her coming late to Jothegara for media briefing, actress Shruthi divorced her husband director S Mahender, Jothegara film locked in financial problems, there was hue and cry for the theatre timings, top producer, director and actor Dwarakish dashed by saying Aptha Mithra director P Vasu cheated me and Charlie Chaplin statue installation controversy.

The first half year lost one of the pillars of Kannada Cinema industry, a notable personality R Lakshman and Hindi director and actor Feroz Khan dies in Bangalore.

Among the developments includes the expected winner at the MP elections Ambarish lost in the election battle, the setting up of Kannada Chalanachitra Academy, the prestigious Lahari Recording Company moved to the new office.

Mr V.Yateesh and Ms M. Sindhoori, children of the two big Bangalore Royal Challenger families in the cinema business Rockline Venkatesh and Munirathna Naidu respectively married on 30th April in Bangalore Main Palace in a grand style, and college that gives education in music, dance and drama besides teaching technical aspects was started by top ranking music director Hamsalekha.
