The highly talented actress Umashri has bagged the First National Award for her terrific performance in the movie 'Gulabi Talkies', the same film was awarded as the best regional film by the 53 National awards committee.
The 2007- 2008 National Films Awards were announced in New Delhi today by the Union Information Minister. The Congress Legislative Council member, as well as top actress Umashri bagged the State Award for the same movie Gulabi Talkies and for the same she won 2 lakh award at the Ocean Intrenational film festival.
The notable thing here is the state, National and International award coming to Kannada actress. Similarly actress Thaara and Dr. Jayamala won the award for their best performance in the movies 'Haseena' and 'Thai Saheba' respectively which were both directed by Girish Kasaravalli.
One more happy information is that Kannada actor Prakash Rai (Raj) bagged the best actor for his role in the movie 'Kanjeevaram' leadingShahrukh and Aamir Khan both figured in the ‘Chak De India’ and ‘Taare Zamin Par’.
"Chak De India" was selected as the wholesome entertainment category movie and "Taare Zameen Par" in the family welfare category. Shankar Mahadevan won the best play back singer award for the song "Meri Maa" from the movie 'Taare Zameen Par'.
